If you pay any attention to then you likely already know that the 2014 Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra are due for some major updates and have been keen to see what they are. Well I can tell you first-hand that they’re numerous and significant. Last year Ram came out with a new 1500 and Ford is due to bring a new F-150 concept here to Detroit, but right now it’s GM’s turn to unveil the latest weapon in the ongoing war of trucks in North America. The focus with this generation seems to be the driving experience, with massive improvements to comfort, style and driveability while maintaining the working capabilities that these trucks are designed for.
Starting at the core, they’ve done a great job of both improving strength and reducing weight with the liberal use of boxed and hydroformed high strength steels for the frame. The means a stronger, safer chassis along with a quieter cabin and the multitude of benefits that come from lower weight. New shear-style body mounts help isolate the cabin from everything the chassis has to handle and provides significant NVH improvements. The interior of the cabin gets an update with more modern technology but nothing groundbreaking or surprising. I’ll be perfectly honest, I haven’t been in a current generation Silverado,
